The Great Barrier Reef is so large that it can be seen from outer space. It is made up of around 3,000 individual reefs and over 900 islands and it stretches for more than 1,600 miles.

Located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland in northeast Australia, the Great Barrier Reef is composed of more than 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for 1,600 miles over an area of approximately 133,000 sq miles.
